At PPA we offer classes in singing and drama plus all disciplines of dance. We follow the ISTD Syllabus and students can take exams in Ballet, Modern and Tap on a regular basis if they wish.

Classical Ballet:
Classes start at the barre, which supports the balance of the body while we do various exercises designed to increase strength, mobility and 'turn out', giving the distinctive 'classical line' required for ballet and enabling the body to balance more efficiently. Then we move into the centre. The discipline required for ballet develops a heightened sense of grace and fluidity. We have classes open from beginner-advanced.

Modern:
This covers the style of dance seen in shows such as Chicago, Fosse, Fame etc. Tutor, Charlotte Pateman AISTD trained at Performers College and is a highly experienced dancer, having performed at venues such as The Bloomsbury Theatre in London's West End and Top of the Pops. It is a technique based dance form and is advisable if any student is seriously considering entering into the performing world professionally, whether as a singer, dancer, or actress.

Tap:
Tap dancing is mostly associated with the film musicals of Fred Astaire and shows such as Tap Dogs. Anyone at any age can have a go, it has always been a popular dance form, as you get to make a lot of noise! We teach a mix of tap styles - American and English, the difference being, English is bouncy with lots of arm and leg movements. American is based on the original tap dances of the thirties and forties, and keeps the foot and ankle work very close to the floor giving a smoother, more relaxed look.

Singing:
Taught by Samantha Robertson. Samantha is a professional voice coach direct from the musical theatre industry having featured in ‘Phantom of The Opera’, at Her Majesty’s Theatre, West End, for 6 years and trained at the Royal College of Music. Focus is on correct warm-up techniques, developing all areas of the voice, and performing songs from the musical and pop world.

Jazz Partner Work:
Exciting boy/girl partner work involving lifts. A lot of strength required for both genders. All boys welcome, but knowledge of ballet or modern technique is an advantage for girls wishing to take part.

Drama:
with the mix of two different tutors, every drama student gets a full a varied training. Anne-Marie and Illy have different styles and work on different aspects of drama, they share each class so that everyone covers both aspects. The ability to act requires technique just like singing and dance. Illy covers this in her class, working on colour words, prononciation, accent, etc, while Anne-Marie works more on the physicality of the actor, imagination and characterisation. All areas are required to become a strong actor and all are covered.

Street Jazz:
These classes are very physical, incorporating dance moves from both sides of the Atlantic. They blend various dance styles mixed with a multicultural atmosphere and funky tunes. They begin with a jazz based warm up followed by a routine which can include locking and popping, street style and funk. Most Street Jazz is to modern popular music, similar to hip hop this is the type of dance seen in pop videos and television chart shows etc.

Hip Hop:
Sophie teaches a very popular Hip hop class combining old school with the latest street styles. She is an established commercial dancer, so be prepared for a demanding and very stylish professional experience!! We have classes open from beginner to advanced.

Bollywood:

Latest songs, latest moves, great workout and an abundance of fun! Bollywood dance consists of various Indian and Western Dance forms, primarily inspired from the music in Bollywood film industry. It incorporates a fusion of Indian classical, bhangra, hip hop/funk styles with a touch of pure Bollywood cheese to top it off!
